Utility rates and billing fees, including water rates and the Sewer District Fee (SDF) are determined within the Town of Oak Island's Annual Budget.

SDFs are included on all tax bills with no credit for the improved parcels.

The Budget is established and approved by the Town Council each year in June. Upon approval, new rates, fees, and taxes are put in place for the upcoming fiscal year, which runs from July 1 to June 30. All money collected during that time is for that fiscal year. The SDF and Town property taxes will be billed by the end of September and are due by January 5 (unless that day falls on a weekend and then they are due the following Monday).

The current SDF is $601.78, and can be paid all at once or in installments prior to the due date (but will need to be clearly identified on your payment). Payments not specifically identified as for the SDF will be credited toward the water and sewer monthly bill, not the SDF.

The SDF has always been used for debt within the system, and will continue to pay for the debt within the system. The balance of water and sewer rates will continue to pay for the operational and maintenance items within the system.

WATER RATES

• Up to 2,000 gallons:          $25.22
• 2,001 - 4,000 gallons:      + $3.92 per 1,000 gallons
• 4,001 - 10,000 gallons:    + $4.32 per 1,000 gallons
• 10,001 - 12,500 gallons:  + $4.75 per 1,000 gallons
• Greater than 12,500 gallons:  $5.22 per 1,000 gallons

EXAMPLE (10,000 gallons):

25.22 (base for up to 2,000 gallons) + 7.84 (3.92 x 2 for gallons 2,001 to 4,000) + 25.92 (4.32 x 6 for gallons 4,001 to 10,000) = $58.98 Total Bill

WASTEWATER RATES

• Up to 4,000 gallons:    $38.41
• Over 4,000 gallons:     + $8.33 per 1,000 gallons

EXAMPLE (10,000 gallons):

38.41 (base for up to 4,000 gallons) + 49.98 (8.33 x 6 for gallons 4,001 to 10,000)  =  $88.39 Total Bill

SEWER DISTRICT FEE

• $601.78
• ALL parcels now pay the SDF that appears on the tax bill
